Malay status for Indian Muslims? Not so fast...

- Trashed by SampahMan @ 2:20 PM

In an effort to highlight stupid things that some politicians do or say (and there are so many), I kick it off with an article in The Star dated 19th September 2005, Kimma seeks Malay status for Indian Muslims. I rate this a 4/5 in terms of stupidity.

First off, some important points in the article:

Point 1:
In the 2nd and 3rd paragraph:
Kimma cited provisions in the Federal Constitution, which stated that a Muslim who could speak Bahasa Malaysia and practise the Malay culture was regarded a Malay.
The contents of the motion, among others, stated: “The Indian Muslims adopt the three elements but still cannot get the Malay status.

As opposed to the final 3rd paragraph:
Kimma advisor Thasleem Mohd Ibrahim said that although the Indian Muslims could be Umno members, many were not keen because they wanted to maintain their culture and mother tongue.

MANY wanting to MAINTAIN their culture and MOTHER TONGUE and the broadly applicable statement: THE INDIAN MUSLIMS ADOPT THE THREE ELEMENTS. Hmm, contradiction anyone?

Point 2:
It's not really clear why Kimma wants all Indian Muslims to be considered Malays, oh wait, oh, they actually want bumiputera status, so that they can get special quotas in low-cost housing allocations (the hardcore poor applies), places in public institution of higher learning (study hard in school, and earn your place), scholarships (study doubly hard and participate in co-curricular activities), and employment opportunities (where do you want your special quota to be at? Intel? IBM?)

Point 3:
Are all Indian Muslims affiliated to KIMMA, a POLITICAL party? What if an Indian Muslim really does not want to be considered a Malay, and just wants to be considered Indian Muslim? You assume the right to speak for all Indian Muslims, you bunch of pompous asses?

Typical BS.

Instead of asking for a special quota, why not try pooling your resources with other non-Malay political parties to try to ask for the abolishment of all special quotas for anybody? It's hard, but at least, it's the right thing to do...

Comments
they're all in it for the 7% bumiputra discount on homes.

and tender and contract allocations for bumiputra companies.

and four wives. eh, no, they already have that priviledge.

The privileges are there for a reason; to protect the ppl who are helpless to help themselves.

In the long run, it became a pamper machine for em, making it harder for em to reach a status of self-independence.

If they do take away the privileges now, I'd fear there are wuld b increase in crimes, driven by desperation.

How does one teach a group of people who's been so used of being spoon fed to feed emselves? hmm..
